free christmas postcards - santa christmas wishesBy Debora Dyess

On average, 20 million pieces of mail pass through the US Post Office between Thanksgiving and Christmas. That’s a lot of holiday greetings! But part of what stops many of us from sending more is the cost. It’s just too expensive to buy a card for all of our family, friends and business acquaintances and pay the cost of first-class postage for all those greetings. What to do?

Put on your ‘Clever Elf Cap’, of course, and send Christmas postcards instead!

Postcards are a cheaper alternative to folded cards because postcard stamps cost less than traditional first class mail stamps. Plus, you can save money and make great-looking postcards at home.

If you’ve been saving Christmas cards and have accumulated a shoebox of old cards, one way you can make your own postcards is to reuse these cards you received. Carefully cut the cards at the fold and make your own free Christmas postcards. Print a message on the left side of the card and the new recipient’s mailing information on the right. With a postcard stamp securely attached, this is as good as a store-bought postcard, and you’re recycling, to boot.

Don’t have any old cards? Then find some free templates online. There are a few online websites that are willing to give you free Christmas postcards. No kidding! Of course, you’ll have to print them at home on your own printer, but at these prices, that’s not a big deal. How’s that for putting a jingle in your jolly?

You can find five free Christmas postcards right here on Printable Santa Letters.com that feature vintage Santa designs, such as the one shown above. These are saved as Microsoft Word documents, so you can easily open, edit and print your postcards.
